John S. Kubis, M.Ed, LPC-S, LSOTP-S, NCC
John Kubis joined the FSC Team in December 2003. He is the Program Director for the Oasis Program, providing counseling services with a focus on youth and their families. John is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider-Supervisor (LSOTP-S), and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with a specialty in treating youth in the juvenile justice system with a variety of illegal, dangerous, and/or maladaptive sexual behavior problems. He has worked with adolescents, young children and their families since 1982. He holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling & Guidance from Texas State University in 1984 and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Psychology at Eisenhower College of RIT, New York in 1977.
As an accomplished presenter, John lends his expertise regarding issues related to youth and sexual behavior issues through presentations at local, state, and national conferences. He describes his therapeutic style as client centered, eclectic, experiential, and didactic, with a focus on Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He is a member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA). He believes in taking a collaborative/team approach to working with youth on juvenile probation. He is passionate that “Youth are the Future,” that “Kids can Change,” and “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”
A native of suburban New York City, John has called Texas home for over 30 years. In his spare time, you’ll find him exercising or playing guitar in a praise band. A fun fact to ask him about is how he got to the top of Machu Pichu, Peru or his black panther.
